The Next Generation in Green Building Design (Series 1) Registration TBD /

This course has been designed with Design Professionals, Engineers and Students in mind, but is also open to public.  Handouts and a certificate of completion will be provided.  Attendees will qualify to obtain Learning Hours for OAA members.

Event will be held at the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) at 111 Moatfield Drive, Toronto, M3B 3L6

Science, design, and holistic strategies is an integrated approach that can be guided by Nature’s own design language for healthy indoor environments.  This 2-day course will focus on modern day environmental toxins that are saturating our indoor environment which are unknown to most building occupants causing a wide range of health problems that are not being properly diagnosed by medical practitioners.  A detailed review of these issues will be presented along with cost-effective solutions that can be easily integrated into green building strategies and earn credit for LEED projects.   Each part can be taken individually, but most beneficial if both parts are taken.  Quantitative solutions will be presented in Part 1, and qualitative solutions will be presented in Part 2.

Part 1: Learn about EMF and EMR which will include a review of terminology, Canadian and International guidelines, smart meters, energy-efficient appliances and lighting, baby monitors, cordless phones, cell phones, Wi-Fi and wireless technology, Wi-Fi in schools and homes, hands-on measuring devices and techniques, practical and holistic shielding methods, shielding building materials and systems, green building design integration, and much more.  Quantitative solutions will be presented.

Part 2: Discover how ancient master builder’s designed with earth’s natural magnetic energy grids and how modern day designs can benefit from this holistic approach.  You will learn about BioGeometry and the Physics of Quality which emphasis energy-harmonizing through centering.  This is far more advanced than the art of Fung Shui.   New research and insight on mitigating detrimental earth energy crossings, electrical and wireless radiation exposure, and radioactivity of building materials.  These solutions have been researched for over 40 years.  Case studies and health benefits will be reviewed on local and international projects.

INSTRUCTOR:  Yasmeen Siddiqui
COURSE:  Electromagnetic Radiation (EMF/EMR) Design Solutions in Green Buildings

March 2013 - CopyYasmeen Siddiqui, MBSc., BSSO, LEED AP BD+C
Principal of Architecture Cures, Building Science Specialist

Yasmeen is a building science specialist, researcher, writer, and energy-quality surveyer with 10 years combined consulting and research experience.  She has a bachelor’s degree and a graduate degree from the Department of Architecture, Ryerson University.  She is principal of Architecture Cures, an innovative consulting and research company; and founder of the Architecture Cures Foundation that helps transform spaces into safe and healthy environments for sick children and the underprivileged.

She introduced a new specialty in her field during her master’sdegree in building sciences, Department of Architecture – Electromagnetic Pollution Mitigation and applied her design strategies in a sustainable renovation of 1909 single family dwelling in downtown Toronto, Canada; a model house for research on sustainable renovations.  Since 2008, she has been researching and educating her low-cost design solutions to create superior healthy green buildings with reduced EMF and chemical pollution integrated with BioGeometry® Energy Systems and principals of Fung Shui – she firmly believes that “Prevention is the closest thing to the CURE to promote longevity for people and buildings”.

INSTRUCTOR:  Dr. Pier Paolo Alberghini
COURSE:  BioGeometry® Energy Systems Introduction in Architectural Design
